Are Slot Machines Really Random 2019

As a result, they’re not really random, but act like they would be. Usually they’ll take in certain types of inputs such as the machine’s date and time and some other data to seed the algorithm to generate the “random” numbers that govern the slot. This number generator is designed like everything else to make the game run as expected. Land-based slots are driven by Hardware Random Number Generator or HRNG, which can be described as some kind of external device connected to the casino server’s USB port. On the other hand, the core of virtual one-armed bandits is Pseudorandom Number Generator or PRNG – a program code created by software developers, so complex mathematical algorithms “tell” reels when to stop. As an avid slots player, I am usually aware of what new slot games are due to be released within a given period of time.

However, years gone by have taught me not to get my hopes up too much about particular games. Sometimes, slots I’ve been anticipating turn out to be a letdown, and slots I hadn’t even been aware of surprised me with how awesome they were.

As 2020 is upon us, I wanted to do a quick recap of the best slot machines that were released in 2019 so that you know which games you should try. You may have already played some of them, and some you might have missed. Either way, this is your chance to check them out.

I decided to pick one game from some of the major slot machine software companies, sort of like a nod of recognition to that company for their best slot game this year. Please note that this list isn’t in any ranking order, they’re just listed as I recalled them. Enjoy this list of the best slots of 2019!

NetEnt: Narcos

In 2018, NetEnt surprised me with a fantastic slot I hadn’t even been aware of, Asgardian Stones. However, this year, their best slot was one I’d been anticipating for months, Narcos.

Fans of the Netflix series will be able to guess that this slot is themed on the brutal cocaine boss Pablo Escobar. If you watched the series, you’ll recognize several characters including El Patron himself.

NetEnt always includes a few great bonus features in its top slots, and Narcos is no exception. This game has a “driveby” feature where a shooter blasts bullets onto the reels to turn random symbols wild and a “locked up” feature where certain symbols lock together and award multipliers of up to 3x and upgrade symbols on top of three free spins.

Narcos is a medium volatility slot with 243 ways to win. The top symbol (Javier Pena) pays 300x. Ideally, I’d have liked it to pay a little more, but that doesn’t take away from how epic this slot is. NetEnt always delivers when it comes to franchise slots, and they’ve done it again here.

Playtech: Justice League Comic

It’s always difficult to pick the best Playtech slot in any given year, mostly because Playtech puts out a constant stream of top slot machines. It’s hard to quantify which is the best one.

This year, Playtech added to its already booming Age of the Gods franchise, and it also launched a new franchise, the Kingdom’s Rise slots. However, of all the great games Playtech released this year, I picked Justice League Comic as the best one.

Why so? Apart from the fact that I enjoy DC Comics, this game has giant 3×3 symbols, shifting wilds which can boost wins by up to 5x, and free spins with multipliers as big as 16x.

What really put the cherry on the cake for me were the jackpots. You can win 10,000x in the base game, but there are also four progressive jackpots to be won. This slot is part of the DC Super Heroes network, and the largest of the four jackpots is worth $200,000 minimum. It’s truly one of the best slot machines of 2019!

Microgaming: Queen of the Crystal Rays

I considered three games for the title of best Microgaming slot in 2019. They were this one, Ruby Casino Queen, and Aurora Wilds. I found all three to be original, fun to play, and worthy of consideration.

I ultimately picked Queen of the Crystal Rays as the top Microgaming slot this year because it’s so original. First, it has a unique mystical theme which I struggle to describe, and second, it surprised me with a couple of interesting features I couldn’t predict.

In this slot, the queen can appear and double the number of ways to win from 25 to 50 instantly. At least one ray lights up the reels, and random wilds and multipliers appear. In the free spins round, these rays can award instant cash prizes and multipliers of up to 5x.

This isn’t a branded, big-money slot like the two mentioned above. However, it is extremely cool and well worth a few spins at your favorite casino site.

Yggdrasil: Trolls Bridge II

I’m all too aware that there’s an element of subjectivity in this list. Sometimes, I can’t put my finger on what exactly makes one slot “the best” as compared to several other excellent candidates. That’s the case with this slot from Yggdrasil Gaming. I easily could have picked Yokozuna Clash or Nikola Tesla’s Incredible Machine as the best Yggdrasil slot. Why didn’t I? There’s just something about this one I liked more.

Perhaps it’s the fact that Trolls Bridge II has lots of bonus features and extras, or maybe it’s because I enjoyed the original Trolls Bridge slot machine. Like its predecessor, this game has 3D graphics and lots of features such as giant symbols, multipliers which can boost wins by up to 5x, a free spins feature, and instant cash payouts.

This is a medium volatility slot with an additional pay-to-play feature called the “Golden Bet.” It will cost you 10 coins per spin, and it allows you to pick an extra feature each time you enter the free spins round.

I always enjoy Yggdrasil slots, and there’s a reason this company has won so many awards. However, this one is special, and it’s definitely the best slot machine of 2019 from this provider.

IGT: Ocean Belles

IGT has released some of the best slot machines of all time, so I was expecting big things from this company in 2019. As always, IGT released a few great titles, but one stuck out in my mind as particularly great—Ocean Belles.

This is a great-looking slot as well as being fun to play. The game theme is a glamorous crew of female seafarers (the Ocean Belles) set on a gentle sea at sunset.

This slot also has multiple bonus features: stacked symbols, synchronized reels, wild reels, multiple free spins bonus rounds with up to 90 free spins in the best-case scenario, and a progressive jackpot seeded at $500k.

While all of the slots listed on this page are top-notch, I’ve come back and played this one several times throughout the year. That’s partly because I discovered it as soon as IGT released it in August, but it’s also because I seriously enjoy playing it.

Blueprint Gaming: Tiki Treasures Megaways

I was genuinely torn about which game to pick as the best slot from Blueprint Gaming this year. I almost declared it a draw between Beavis and Butthead and Tiki Treasures Megaways. I decided to give it to Tiki Treasures because (1) it has a progressive jackpot, and (2) 2019 was the year of the Megaways slots in many ways, and I wanted to recognize that.

This slot is set in Polynesia and the symbols on the reels are all Tiki-themed. Bonus rounds in this game include cascading reels, multiple free spins options with multipliers of up to 10x, and several progressive jackpots in the Jackpot King Deluxe feature.

In case you’re not aware, Megaways slots generate a random number of ways to win on each spin. With this slot, that can be between 324 and 117,649 ways to win. BTG also deserves a shoutout for creating the Megaways engine, which as I said previously, made big waves in the online slots market in 2019.

Some other cool Megaways slot machines worth checking out include Pig Wizard, Return of Kong, and Legacy of Ra.

Novomatic: Myth of Medusa Gold

This is one slots company which I thought released a clear winner this year. Myth of Medusa Gold was the best Novomatic slot of the year by a country mile!

There’s no shortage of Greek-themed slots, but that doesn’t take away from how excellent this one is. It has three bonus features—a free spins round with sticky wilds, a mirror feature which sees symbols fill the middle three reels, and a progressive jackpot. That’s lucky because the base game jackpots aren’t that big at all.

What gives this game its X-Factor is the theme. The graphics are phenomenal, and the soundtrack sets the mood. In terms of design, it’s probably the best slot machine from Novomatic in several years.

This was one of several ancient Greek slots which this firm released in 2019. Others included Asgard’s Thunder and Haul of Hades. These perfectly complement the Almighty Jackpots slots from previous years. They’re all worth checking out.

Red Tiger Gaming: Dragon’s Fire Megaways

2019 was a massive year for Red Tiger Gaming. The biggest event in the company’s history happened when NetEnt acquired it for £200 million, plus a possible extra £23 million a couple of years down the line.

There were also some great Red Tiger slots released in 2019. I enjoyed the futuristic game The Equalizer and Ninja Ways, but the best slot machine of 2019 for this firm was Dragon’s Fire Megaways.

This slot has a fantasy theme with an epic soundtrack. The game engine generates up to 117,649 ways to win on each spin. There are also lots of great features, including cascading reels with multipliers of up to 50x, random multipliers of up to 10x, random wilds through the fire blast feature, and a free spins feature.

You can win more than 10,000x your stake on every spin. This is what I call an epic slot machine! Any single spin could change your life for good.

WMS: Elvis Lives

I had a “Burning Love” for this game as soon as I played it. I was “All Shook Up” when I experienced my first big win, but it ended in “Heartbreak Hotelwhen I gave it all back to the casino.

Forgive my cheesy Elvis lines, and focus on one of the best slots of 2019, period. Elvis Lives has so many features I don’t know where to begin, and it has a cool (if visually basic) theme which does justice to The King.

Elvis Lives bonus features include stacked symbols, Elvis Reels (Elvis takes over three reels), two free spins features, a pick ‘em game with instant cash prizes, and a jackpot bonus game for a shot at 2,000x your stake.

Perhaps the best part about this slot, at least for Elvis fans, is the epic soundtrack. You’ll hear a collection of the best Elvis songs as you spin the reels. Give this a spin… “It’s Now or Never!”

Elk Studios: Voodoo Gold

Elk Studios most definitely knows how to create original slot games, and I thought that Voodoo Gold was a perfect example of that ability. It’s set deep in the forest and has a magical theme that will spook superstitious players.

An intriguing theme isn’t all this game offers, though. It has four different bonus features. First, there’s the avalanche feature. Every time you create a win, the symbols which create it vanish and new ones replace them. The numbers of ways to win expands with every avalanche.

You also have the big voodoo symbols which can land 4×4 on the reels. Bomb symbols can set off extra avalanches, and you can win up to 15 free spins in the bonus feature.

Are Slot Machines Really Random 2019 Song

The number of ways to win depends on how many avalanches you’ve created. You’ll start with 4,096, and as you create new avalanches, there can be up to 262,144 ways to win. Voodoo Gold has a jackpot of 5,000x, which isn’t too shabby. Winning that would be magic!

Final Verdict

I enjoyed all of the slots above immensely, but my favorite of them all was Ocean Belles. I suggest you give them all a try and decide the best slot machines of 2019 according to your own opinion.

Of all the casino games in the world, slots are arguably the first you’d think of. We bet that an image of Las Vegas has just popped up in your mind, with rows and rows of slot machines. Everyone there wants to know if the slots are hot or cold, if they’re on the verge of victory, or if they have a chance of winning.

The whole reason why randomness is important when playing slots is because of the premise that absolutely anyone can be a winner! Slots are the ultimate game of chance. They are what you see in all the movies — coins practically flooding out onto the winner’s lap. And we all have that one friend who knows a guy that knows another guy who gave up playing slots, only for the person who went in after him to win the money.

You just have to be there at the right time, and the loot is yours. That’s precisely why slots work like a charm and have remained so popular after all this time

Now, believe it or not, slots are a science, and so is making sure they’re actually random. If we’re talking about physical slot machines, physical mechanisms are used to assure fair gameplay. The online slot machines use software to ensure the very same thing.

We’re going to explain how slot machines work in the following passages, and hopefully leave no stone unturned. If you’re impatient to get started, check out our list of best online slots for real money to begin playing. If you’re still a bit apprehensive, read on to understand the most popular casino offer in the world better.

So How Do Slot Machines Work?

Slot machines games have come a long way since the one-armed bandit days of yore. They work through different mechanisms, depending on whether the slot is a real or virtual.

Land-based casinos will still have actual slot machines, while virtual casinos will boast their digital versions. Online casinos have virtual slots that employ what’s known as a Random Number Generator, and a lot of them also have progressive jackpots.

But let’s start from the beginning.

From Land-Based Bandit-With-One-Arm to Online Star

The classic slot machine used to take up half the room and was an ornate, clunky thing. It had a lever sticking out, and the player would sit on the stool and pull it. But first, one had to feed the behemoth with coins to make it spin. At first, these machines had three reels with just a handful of symbols on them, and there was traditionally only one payline — 3 identical symbols aligned.

The game was so popular it seemed as though casinos were built around it! Of course, as technology developed, the love of slots remained steadfast, and people began making video slots. Suddenly, casinos all over the world had versions of video slots and video poker, and game machines that had a screen in general. The concept was more or less the same, but the machines themselves got smaller and more elegant.

Finally, all the world went online, and so did casinos and their favorite game — slots.

Online slots use, as we’ve mentioned, a generator that, well, generates random numbers. It is a piece of software that is absolutely necessary to assure unbiased gameplay. You then click on the virtual lever and hope and pray your symbols align.

Since everything is online, it frees casinos and slot manufacturers from all the land-based restraints, like the number of reels. There can be as many virtual reels as the software company likes. It’s really more of a design issue at this point. Likewise, the number of symbols on the reels is also potentially endless, since the virtual reels don’t actually spin — it’s merely a simulation.

This has also made the proliferation of slots possible, with most online casinos boasting hundreds of virtual slot options.

Are Slot Machines Random

Virtual slot design is more sophisticated and the options more abundant, like ways of winning, for instance. Before, only the classic three cherries in the middle meant you got some cash, but now there are multiple ways to win. Virtual slots have also gotten a fun makeover by ways of in-game bonuses like Multipliers, as well as features like Scatters and Wilds. To quickly clarify, Scatters trigger in-game bonuses no matter where they’ve (obviously) scattered on the reels. And Wilds are like a Joker in a card game, meaning they can stand in for the symbol you’re missing to make a winning combo. An example of an in-game bonus would be spins you get for free or a Multiplier that will, logically, let you multiply the amount you’ve won.

The paylines have become more intricate and inclusive, and manufacturers can pretty much pick any alignment to be a winning one. From a single payline of the original one-armed bandits to maybe five with video slots, there are 243 or more paylines in a typical online slot today.

This is all a lot of jargon, so let’s break it down a bit more.

Some Typical Slot Jargon You Ought to Know

We’ve already strewn the text with some slang phrases, but we’ll really get into the nitty-gritty of them here. They can all help you understand how slots work and what the hallmarks of randomness are so you can keep a lookout for them.

So, we need to understand what RTP, RNG, and slot volatility is.

The RTP

Really

RTP is something the prospective player really needs to understand because it’s directly linked to your bankroll. The letters stand for “Return to Player,” which refers to the money you can expect to get back over time. Many often refer to it as the payback percentage.

To make it crystal clear, we’ll give you a quick example. Say you choose a slot with a payback percentage of 80%. Technically, it means you’ll get $0.80 for every $1 invested, but it’s not exactly something to count on. For one, the calculation is made on the assumption the player will be at it a really long time, so it’s an elusive long-term potential return. And secondly, you’d be naive to ever choose a slot that offers an 80% payback because that’s a rip-off.

The RTP really ought to be above 92% for any gambling enthusiast to think it fair, and many have even higher standards. Some aficionados will only play if the slot promises a 96% or even 97% RTP, so do keep that in mind.

As a side note, you might want to keep one more thing in mind. Some manufacturers can make the program liable to alteration by the casino. This means that the casino may be allowed to set its own RTP, which isn’t fixed to the game. So keep an eye on that, too.

Understanding the Random Number Generator

This piece of technology is precisely what allows the game to get the combinations of symbols to randomly pop up on the wheels. The RNG, for short, is what keeps everything running smoothly and fairly. So, if you choose to play online, make sure that the casino you’re playing at is using this program, and that all their games run based on it.

Knowing that there’s a software that keeps things random doesn’t increase your odds of winning. It does, however, assure you that you’re getting to play a fair game.

The Volatility

Random Slots Video

The rule is that if the slot is highly volatile, it pays a lot but seldom. If the volatility is low, you’re paid out often, but it’s nothing to brag home about. Playing high-volatility slots can turn into an endurance challenge, and you’ll need to stockpile your cash before you set out on that venture. The low-volatility ones offer quick rewards and fewer hours playing.

Very often, slots with progressive jackpots are highly volatile, because the point is to get the money to add up before it’s cashed out. It’s just as random as a standard, random jackpot, but those are usually linked to low-volatility games.

How to Check if a Slot is Random?

Are

New Random Slots

Well, unless you’re a casino inspector or the slot is severely corrupted, you can’t exactly check that for yourself as a player. What you can do is to educate yourself on the concepts of RTP, volatility, and RNG to know that you’ve picked a safe slot.

Again, remember that nothing can increase your chances of winning, because slots are the ultimate game of chance. If the slot you’re playing is at a secure venue, you’ll know the machine is inspected and/or the program is not rigged.

Are Slot Machines Really Random

And remember that slots are to be played in the long run, if you want to do it properly.
